Quayside Restaurant & Fish Bar, Gourdon, Scotland

Whenever we head down to Charleton Fruit Farm in Montrose, we would pass by several fishing / coastal villages such as Catterline, Gourdon and Johnshaven. This year, we made it a point to visit these villages during our journey to see what they have to offer.

It was a beautiful day when we visited Gourdon, a coastal fishing village south of Inverbervie and Johnshaven. You can enjoy a short walk by the harbour or visit the Maggie Law Maritime Museum. You can also buy fresh fish from the rustic filleting sheds around the harbour - definitely something we would need to do next year.

As it was close to dinner time, we dined at Quayside Restaurant & Fish Bar. They have a chipper on the lower level or you can dine in the restaurant located on Level 1. We were ushered to a table by the window, hence we got a fantastic view looking out towards Gourdon harbour and the North Sea.

The menu features mainly seafood (utilising the best of the fresh catch from Catterline, Johnshaven and Gourdon itself) as well as burgers and desserts. The specials changes regularly depending on the fresh seasonal produce that they get.

My favorite dish here was the Crayfish cocktail (£5.25) which came with an incredibly generous amount of fresh crayfish, tossed in a cocktail sauce on a bed of crisp lettuce. So delicious, both Hubby and I agreed this was awesome!

For mains, Hubby had the Mixed Fried Fish platter (£13.95) off the specials menu, which came with various fish battered and deep fried. There was salmon, haddock, calamari, and prawns as well as chips. The batter was light, we enjoyed this.

Since Gourdon is famous for their crabs (I had it here once), I ordered the Dressed Gourdon crab salad, served with buttered brown toast and a side of chips (£11.95). I do prefer the white meat vs the brown meat from the shell cavity at the top of the crab, which tasted a little too earthy for my liking.

Our kids picked from the Tiddler's Menu - Baby C went for the scampi while Baby D had the haddock. The kids meal comes with salad, baked beans or peas as well as a drink and a scoop of ice cream (£6.95). Overall, a very enjoyable, relaxed meal with friendly service. Can't wait to return for their chipper next!

Beautiful picturesque views from the harbour
